Colorless, tasteless, odorless but deadly, carbon monoxide (CO) is impossible to detect without a warning device. New York State requires CO detectors be installed in both homes and businesses.
In commercial buildings, CO detectors need to be located on the ceiling in the same room as permanently installed fuel burning appliances and centrally located on every habitable level and in every HVAC zone of the building. In homes, CO detectors must be installed outside each separate sleeping area and on every level of a dwelling unit, including basements. By having your CO detectors monitored, our Monitoring Response Center will let you know if you CO levels in your home become unsafe even if you aren’t home.
